Welcome to CIE IGCSE Art & Design.
Course Overview
During your two years studying Art & Design at IGCSE level, you will learn a range of Fine Arts techniques, emphasising drawing, painting, photography & Photoshop, sculpture, textiles and printmaking. You will learn to develop your ideas and by learning from other artists and being inspired by the world around you. For assessment, you will complete two components: Coursework and Exam. Both components will be assessed for 5 Assessment Objectives (click here for more about IGCSE Assessment).

Coursework (50%)
After the foundation units, you will spend the first year of IGCSE creating and exploring your personally selected topic to develop your coursework. You will need to explore one central topic using a range of media. You will need to show evidence of each of the 5 Assessment Objectives.
TOPIC: Personal topic. Your teacher will help you to choose.
MEDIA: a wide range of media You will submit: 1 FINAL PIECE Made in class + 8 BOARDS (A2 SIZE) of supporting studies that show enthusiasm and personal commitment to your topic. Your supporting studies include your investigation, development of ideas and techniques, and how you got to your final artwork. |
Exam (50%)
During the last semester of Grade 10, you will select 1 topic from a list of 8 prescribed topics from Again, building on your skills and understanding from the coursework, you will need to show evidence of each of the 5 Assessment Objectives.
TOPIC: Selected from 8 questions assigned by CIE.
MEDIA: your strongest media You will submit: 1 FINAL PIECE Made during the 8-hour exam + 4 BOARDS (A2 SIZE) that tell the "story" of your final artwork, showing your investigation, development of ideas and techniques, and how you got to your final artwork. |
